We began producing the ribbon D brooches in April 2016 as fundraiser to take Samantha, my wife and partner in Match Accessories to Dapper Day for the first time as a guest (see story below). Continued sales of this, the orange ribbon for Leukemia as a way to continue raising money for her care. The sales of this brooch not only sent us to Dapper Day, they have continued to help cover our ongoing medical expenses.
THANK YOU!
On February 1st I got what may be the scariest phone call of my life. Samantha called and said the results from her routine blood test are in, and they have called me in for an immediate bone marrow biopsy. It took the following 4 weeks for us to finally find out that our family will be forever changed. Sam was diagnosed with CML, an incurable chronic form of Leukemia. She has begun a life long treatment of a daily oral chemotherapy. The chemotherapy is working, and we are 100% confident she will find herself in remission.
In this so far short battle, she has proven to me she is stronger than I could have ever imagined. It is taking a toll though. We have tried to battle silently so far. I have tried to help build her spirits and her need to fight, but I need help. My goal is to take Sam with our little ones to attend Dapper Day as a visitor for the first time. This may seem frivolous to many, but the magic of Disney is real. The love and magic we have found in our “Disney family” has meant so much to her in the past two years. I think a dose of this magic, and a reminder of how much love there is for her is what she needs to rebuild her spirits and fight through this rough period.
We have made the responsible decisions through these changes to let our annual passes expire, and to cancel our scheduled vending opportunities to allow for healing time. Unfortunately I have now had to go on leave from work in addition to a “soft” closure of Match Accessories to care for her and our children. I will eventually have some assistance from SDI, but it may not be enough.
I'm asking for anyone who is able, to help me bring some Disney magic back into Sam’s life. I am selling the brooch above as a fundraiser to take her on this trip, and then help cover family and health care expenses until I can return to work. As soon as I am able I will pay the love forward by producing this brooch in many other colors to raise money for the appropriate cancer charities/foundations. Thank you so much.
The brooch is made of layered stained and sealed laser cut wood, with a high quality 1 1/2" locking pin back riveted on. Making it "Theme Park Ready"! The brooch measures 2 3/4" x 3 1/4". Each item is hand made of a natural material, so actual item may differ slightly from those pictured.
